About / Artist Statement

During her 30-year career, Liz Wuillermin was recognized for her work in editorial, public relations, portraiture, and corporate photography.

After receiving her BFA in Photography from Moore College of Art and Design in 1982, Liz immediately began working as a freelance corporate publication and editorial photographer. This aspect of her career gave her the opportunity to photograph many notable individuals, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, the Dalai Lama, Miles Davis, and Mick Jagger.

In 1996, Liz decided to expand her commercial vision by opening her own studio in Folsom, NJ, where she specialized in family portraits, modeling portfolios, and photojournalism-style wedding photography.

In 1999, Liz was honored by then Mayor Ed Rendell as one of four photographers chosen to document Philadelphia for the gophilly.com project. Additionally, her photographs have appeared in various newspapers and magazines, including TV Guide, Psychology Today, Money Magazine, PC World, Philadelphia Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and have been featured in such books as The Philadelphia Orchestra’s: A Century of Music, and Larry Kane’s Philadelphia. Her portrait and editorial work is also permanently hanging in The Philadelphia Visitor’s Center, 5th & Market Streets Philadelphia, Pa.; The Pennsylvania Convention Center, 12th & Market Streets Philadelphia, Pa.; and WPVI Channel Six Building, City Line Ave, Philadelphia, Pa.

After learning about a debilitating back condition, Liz had to give up her commercial career in 2011.

Dealing with this drastic life shift, she reconnected with her passion for Fine Arts Photography.

The Sacred Earth Fine Art website is a reflection of Liz’s varied personal vision expressed through traditional photography and the use of digital technology, as now an afforded option to creatively incorporate into the use of this medium to effect the final image made.

Artist Statement:

People and Landscape:

My People and Landscape images are inspired by capturing the world around me as I experience it and revealing what sometimes feels like magical moments going unseen. Much of my inspiration is derived from photojournalist work focusing on bringing attention to the finer details of the world we live in. In my work, I look to capture specific moments to engage my audience in a meaningful way with a variety of subject matters.

Organizing visional chaos is my inspirational motivation. Connecting with a moment that transcends from the quick chaotic movements between time and space to create a lasting image with the impact to affect one’s emotional engagement with the subject matter photographed is both a motivating factor and pure joy for me.

Floral and Patterns:

Growing up on a farm in South Jersey, I have always been inspired by all the rich color, texture, form, and pattern from the nature that surrounded me. Having the opportunity to live and grow up around these natural landscapes made me better appreciate the subtle, profound beauty and wisdom of 'Mother Earth' and all she has to offer us. My images’ celebrates our connection to and respect for all this sacred earth has to give.

My Floral photographs reflect my pure love of nature especially flowers. Flowers uplift our spirits and reflect the natural beauty that surrounds us when we look for it.

My Pattern images are a tribute to my love of Kaleidoscopes and of nature. I remember as a child looking through them in amazement as I witnessed everything being magically transformed into colorful shapes and patterns before me! How mesmerizing and exciting it was to experience this phenomenon.

I started experimenting with this technique of mirroring and repeating an image to create the Kaleidoscope pattern effect first in the darkroom back in the ‘80’s and then recently revisiting the project on the computer using Photoshop.

Conceptual:

My Conceptual work is based on emotional and spiritual ideas. Bringing together different photographed elements to form abstract ideas about life, its experiences and growing pains. We are influenced by so many aspects during our stay on this planet. These images are a reflection of my interpretations of some of the thoughts and feeling inside me. They are abstract in nature which for me is a lot like life. Learning to see between and beyond the lines drawn is where I uncover my life’s holy wisdom as to understand and appreciate all that surrounds me.

Current Highlights:

Over twenty of Liz’s ‘Floral Series’ pieces have been purchase by AtlantiCare for their permanent ‘Healing Arts’ collection and hang in various (AtlantiCare) facilities all over South Jersey.

Liz is also working on a book about the first 20 years of her career working as a freelance photographer in Center City Philadelphia (1980’s thru early 2000’s).
